Michael Spencer-Davis has been a professional actor since 1986. He is comfortable in the classics as well as new works and his roles reflect a wide range. Michael has worked at all the major regional theatres in Canada including The Stratford Festival. In the past few years he has also started working in the United States with the Tony award-winning director Darko Tresnjak. In 2019 Michael will be returning to Stratford to play Justice Shallow In The Merry Wives of Windsor directed by Antoni Cimolino, Gratiano in Othello directed by Nigel Shawn Williams as well as Bensinger in The Front Page directed by Graham Abbey.
He has received two Sterling Awards (Edmonton, Alberta) for Outstanding Performance in a Lead Role for Michael in The Saints and Apostles by Raymond Storey and Kemp in Vigil by Morris Panych. Michael has performed in over twenty world premieres working with playwrights that include Erin Shields, Brad Fraser, George F. Walker, Vern Thiessen, Peter Hinton, Trina Davies, Djanet Sears, Raymond Storey, Conni Massing and Bev Cooper. Classical roles include Jaques in As You Like It, Malvolio in Twelfth Night (Canadian Stage Company), Sir Toby Belch – Twelfth Night, Stephano –The Tempest (Hartford Stage) Capulet – Romeo and Juliet (National Arts Centre). Flavius – Timon of Athens, Gremio-Taming of The Shrew, Clarence – Richard III, Casca – Julius Caesar (Stratford Festival).
Michael has also appeared on television in Suits, Murdoch Mysteries, Eleventh Hour and Street Time as well as the film Flash of Genius. Based in Stratford, Ontario Michael continues to work at home and across the country.
